About the album

Jack in the Box is j-hope's debut studio album, released July 15, 2022 — the first solo full-length from any BTS member during the group's hiatus. It's framed around the Greek myth of Pandora's box: the lead singles "More" and "Arson" are the two ends of the album's emotional range, with "More" angry and ambitious and "Arson" reckoning with the cost of that ambition.

It's a darker, more aggressive record than Hope World — fewer summery pop hooks, more grime-influenced production, denser rapping. "Equal Sign" is the most outwardly political track in the BTS solo catalogue, advocating against discrimination of any kind.

Sequences in the gallery for this album skew red, orange, and black — the "Arson" MV's burning-house imagery is the visual reference most ARMYs build around.
