About the album
Map of the Soul: 7 is BTS's fourth Korean studio album, released February 21, 2020, three weeks before the world locked down. The lead single "On" is the most cinematic, marching-band-driven thing they'd recorded to that point, and the accompanying "Kinetic Manifesto Film" is one of the most-watched performance videos of the era.
It's also the album where every member got a dedicated solo or duet: "Inner Child" (V), "Filter" (Jimin), "Moon" (Jin), "My Time" (Jungkook), plus the rapline trilogy of "Interlude: Shadow" (Suga), "Outro: Ego" (j-hope), and "Intro: Persona" (RM, carried over from the previous EP). "Black Swan" — released as a pre-single with an art-film performance — is one of the most-sequenced album tracks in the gallery for its long, choreography-led build.
Because the supporting Map of the Soul tour was cancelled mid-pandemic, this album has a lopsided live history: the planned setlists never fully happened until Permission to Dance on Stage absorbed some of the songs in 2021–2022.
