About the album

Map of the Soul: Persona, released April 12, 2019, is the EP that opened the Jungian-psychology-themed Map of the Soul series. The lead is "Boy with Luv" featuring Halsey — a deliberately bright, pink-and-pastel companion piece to 2014's "Boy in Luv" that flipped the original's posturing into something gentler.

The deeper cuts are arguably the more interesting half of the EP. "Mikrokosmos" was the song BTS used to close their concerts through the Love Yourself / Map of the Soul / Permission to Dance era — the stage lights would dim and the entire arena would become a sea of purple ARMY Bombs synced to the chorus. The lyrics treat each fan as a small, shining star, and that staging was a direct payoff to the metaphor. "Dionysus" is the heaviest, most theatrical track, sometimes described as their version of an arena-rock closer.

Persona-era sequences in the gallery tend to skew bright and warm — pinks and yellows for "Boy with Luv", bigger choreographed colour shifts for "Dionysus", and the soft-purple fade ARMYs almost always reach for on the "Mikrokosmos" outro.
